Comment on SharePoint security fixes released with July 2017 PU and offered through Microsoft Update by patrick
Hi Stefan,
For KB 3203459 on the security guide page https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/security-guidance the product says “Microsoft Business Productivity Servers 2010 Service Pack 2” and not SharePoint server. So do we need to install this for SharePoint 2010 server? And if yes, why does the name says Microsoft Business Productivity Servers 2010 Service Pack 2 instead of SharePoint?
Thanks in advance.

I am a litte confused about PUs. I thought you can find it in Microsoft updates as “PU”, but there is no KB called somthing like “August PU for Sharepoint 2013″… So as I undertsand the PU’s are some KBs in MS Updates which i found in your blog. So for August 3017 there is no PU for Sharepoint 2013. and in Juli 2017 there is only one > •KB 3213559 – Excel Services for SharePoint 2013. and the other KB provided in MS Update list are maybe from june, but for June you did not provide a list of KBs.
Last CU installed is from May 2017…
So should i install just the KB you provide in your blog or all Sceurity updetes for Sherpoint 2013?
Comment on SharePoint security fixes released with August 2017 PU and offered through Microsoft Update by Stefan Goßner
Hi Peter,
PUs are more or less the package which include security fixes. Sometimes we release non-security fixes as PUs if they fix issues which affect a huge amount of customers.
CUs include all fixes including those shipped in PUs.
So if you installed a CU there is no need to install PUs from same or previous months.
Cheers,
Stefan

Hi,
Do you know why no language dependent fixes can’t be installed on any server?
In a previous post you said that we will need to install both updates. But when if i try to install one with language dependent fixes(wssloc….) it is saying that there are no products affected by this update.
Comment on August 2017 CU for SharePoint Server 2016 is available for download by Stefan Goßner
Hi Ionut,
both fixes are required.
The message you got usually indicates that the fix has already been installed.
If the fix has not yet been installed then the behavior you get is not expected and you should open a support case with Microsoft.
Cheers,
Stefan

After installing CU, when running psconfigui, the below error is thrown. I have executed get-spproduct -local and cleared sharepoint cache. Error stills happens. Don’t know what web config could not be found as all apps have their web.config file in place.
An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown. Additional exception information:

Hi Gregory,
the error indicates that a web.config file that SharePoint thinks exists does not exist.
This can happen if the web.config file was deleted or if the whole IIS website was deleted without deleting the associated SharePoint web application in the central admin.
I would suggest check all SharePoint web applications and verify that for each an IIS web site exists.
In case that you have extended a web application to multiple IIS websites you would have to verify also each of these.
Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan. No sites or Web Apps have been deleted. we have 8 servers (4 Webapps and 4 WFE) I have executed Config Wizard in 2 Webapps and it failed. Then I have executed this command stsadm -o provisionservice -action start -servicetype spwebservice and now I have been able to execute Config Wizard with no issues. Farm was working fine before applying CU and now we are having this inconvenient. I will keep trying and digging into errors. Thanks.
