I also have trouble after installing the August 2017 in our sharepoint 2013 environment.
The PSCONFIG is coming back with errors as the patch is missing from other WFE’s, which I have already installed.
I did run the get-spproduct -local on all the servers.
fyi – Somehow the (get-spserver $env:ComputerName).NeedsUpgrade returns false on the app server.

Comment on Common Question: What is the difference between a PU, a CU and a COD? by Joerg Bruennert
Hi Stefan,
until now we have installed only SharePoint CUs in our Farms. (Latest install Jan 2017 CU)
Is it possible to Change to PU installation over WSUS?
Or there any Problems?
Best regards
Joerg
Comment on Common Question: What is the difference between a PU, a CU and a COD? by Stefan Goßner
Hi Joerg,
from what I have seen (I’m not a WSUS expert) WSUS will only install fixes on Standalone SharePoint installations. Not on Farm configuration.
Cheers,
Stefan
Comment on Why we recommend / require to run the Configuration Wizard also for Security fixes by Sven
Hi Stefan, I forgot to gracefully shut down the distributed cache before installing MOSS 2013 SP1. Now the SharePoint Configuration Wizard doesnt run sucessfully. I got ‘Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeException’ Erro on loading one or more types. Tried to reinstall the appfabric service manually, but not lock. Do you have any further suggestion?
Comment on Why we recommend / require to run the Configuration Wizard also for Security fixes by Stefan Goßner
Hi Sven,
these two things should be unrelated. If you are not gracefully shutting down distributed cache you will loose cache content – but you will not run into an upgrade exception.
If you cannot resolve the SPUpgradeException on your own I would recommend to open a support case with Microsoft.
Cheers,
Stefan
Comment on July 2017 CU for SharePoint 2013 product family is available for download by anthony
Hi Stefan, I have a couple of issues if you could advise on, that would be great. Are you aware of any issue running the July 2017 CU with Search Server. It now shows Paused for External request. I have tried to resume it via PS but still no joy., I have tried re-indexing as well. The CU installed with no issues and Config Wizard went through. Although on step 9 it reach 100% but failed due to a solution installed on the farm. Database shows No Action Required but shows failed in upgrade status. I removed solution and ran config again. it went through successfully but still shows Failed in upgrade status, with 1 error. when I search in Upgrade log I cant see any Error, what are your thoughts please.
Thanks
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
hard to say from just the information above.
I would recommend to open a support ticket with Microsoft to get this investigated in more detail.

Comment on SharePoint Variations – The complete Guide – Part 7 – Variation Hierarchy Creation by Arosh Perera
Hi Stefan,
We want to have multiple URls ( 30+) which eventually comes to the same site collection and render the same content. based on the incoming URL we will programmatically change the list reads out put based on content meta data.
only thing is we should have to have different URLs for each variation and seems like it is straight forward. But our URL format would be as below. Can variation support for this use case. If so how ?
variation 1 : http://www.foo.com
variation 2 : http://www.boo.com
variation 3 : http://www.example.com

Hi Stefan,
Would you happen to know if Office 2013 will be getting a similar fix? I need to install Office 2013 pro plus onto server 2012 R2 with .NET FWK 4.7 (not visible in Uninstall programs) and it is still failing on a .NET FWK 4.5 pre-requisite.

Comment on SharePoint Variations – The complete Guide – Part 7 – Variation Hierarchy Creation by Stefan Goßner
Hi Arosh,
variations only allows to create differnet variation labels inside a site collection. You cannot do it between site collections.
Different host names are not possible within a single site collection.

Comment on Feature Pack 2 for SharePoint Server 2016 (aka September 2017 CU) is available for download by Hans
Oh, I really thought the Feature Pack 2, would contain the modern experience as seen in SharePoint online. So much for the excitement.
With modern team sites, pages and more. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place but I can’t find the settings for turning this on in on-premise.
Bummer…….
